MISSION:
To protect the citizens of South Dakota by providing safe and secure facilities for juvenile and adult offenders committed to our custody by the courts, to provide opportunities for their rehabilitation, and to provide effective community supervision upon their release. LEGAL CITATION: Article XIV of the Constitution makes provision for the Department of Corrections as a constitutional department, and statutory provisions outlining the powers and duties of the department are found in Chapter 1-15 of the South Dakota Codified Law.
